I had the opportunity to go on a free hot air balloon ride at the end of July – and I was able to invite a couple of friends to join.
I couldn’t NOT invite my wonderfully adorable friends/couple Rachel and Jared to join Dave and I. Rachel and Jared have been there for me at the drop of a dime and have always been there to keep on encouraging me and reminding me that I’m not too shabby behind the camera. That…and they’re just plain ol’ awesome people through and through.
So I was a bit bummed when the camping night before the hot air balloon adventure I got a text from them saying they were having car trouble and couldn’t make it.
And then I was more than ecstatic when I saw Rachel’s Subaru pull up to the very obscure take-off site at the butt-crack of dawn the next morning!
It seemed like a normal hang-out session with some of my best friends …well…maybe a bit more epic considering there were handfuls of hot air balloons slowly coming to be all around us. So when Rachel excused herself to go to the restroom/Johnny on the Job and Jared very quickly pulled me aside and pulled a hand-made ring out of his pocket I couldn’t help to not punch him in the shoulder five-plus times while repeatedly saying “shut up” as if I had just stepped off the set of Clueless.
At the slam of the smelly, plastic door, Jared quickly pocketed the freshly-forged ring and I tried to withhold my goofy smile from Rachel.
Luckily, our hot air balloon pilot was getting our ride ready and I was able to distract myself with my camera.
It wasn’t long until our balloon was ready and I nervously had to get back to engagement business. Luckily my partner in crime is terrified of heights and it wasn’t long until I was allowed to take the outside corner of our bucket.
And Jared and Rachel are so damn’ed cute…they make it pretty easy to capture the love they beam.
The two love-birds were so caught up in the moment that Jared didn’t hear our pilot say “only a couple minutes left before we descend” nor did he seem to catch on to any of my weird facial expressions I tried to make while Rachel was busy taking in the scenery.
Eventually Jared caught on (or noticed us getting steadily closer to the ground) and knocked out an endearing all the while quick-handed proposal.
Rachel was lovingly surprised to say the least.
These two are some of my best friends and I was so happy that I was able to share a magical moment with them.
