Our Philosophy

Marla’s love for photography prospered after returning home from Iraq in 2005. The camera was her shield she used to help transfer from a life in a war zone to life back at the home front. Throughout that transformation, Marla’s love for truly seeing people and life around her grew as her understanding of photography developed. With lens in hand, Marla hopes to share the beauty she sees around her. Never to take life for granted, she hopes to capture its essence one moment at a time.
Along with Marla’s passion to capture memorable moments, she also strives to help fellow veterans transition back into society through photography. Every second Friday of the month, Marla teaches a free photography class for veterans at her studio through the Art of War Project.

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”
— Elliott Erwitt

“You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.” ― Ansel Adams
